Our Foundational History, Vision and Mission Statement

templegroundsIn October of 1968, Robert L. Seals received a Certificate of Ministry from the Universal Life Church.  From this beginning, a dream materialized and evolved into the earth-based ideology that The Goddess Temple represents today.

In June of 1982, 10 acres of land were purchased in the foothills of Northern California.  The purchase was financed by Reverend Seals.  By April of 1984, Reverend Seals was conducting Sunday services centered around nature hikes into the bordering canyons of Little Chico Creek, Bidwell Park and Big Chico Creek.  These gatherings developed into the spiritual exploration and vision quest that would be the foundational component of future ideology.

In August of 1992, the original Mission Statement was drafted as follows:

~The Universal Life Church of Chico, California, shall provide non-denominational environments to awaken and inspire earth-based spirituality, self nourishment, care for the commons and empowerment of women.

~Our ethics are based upon the fundamental rights of personal spiritual freedom, living liberty, ethnic equality and the pursuit of happiness.  We shall reconnect people to the Godliness of nature, and nature's God.  By example we shall be a community role model in our efforts to live and promote sustainability and healthy lifestyles.

robertVisionary artist, musician, inventor, Goddess Temple builder, humanitarian and shaman of sound and self nourishment.

Many years ago I took an interest in the meditative music of the far east and Native Americans.  I designed my own instruments for drone type sound and learned musical scales from these regions.  I formed a band called Seckund Naychur that plays multi- cultural music to this day.  We studied chakra tones and recorded a CD, Chakra Journeys, which is very effective with meditation and yoga practices.

I began playing solo live music for yoga classes at Universities, festivals and private sports clubs throughout northern California.  The music became amazingly popular.  I began to see the mesmerizing and enlightening effects the droning sounds had on people, especially when I played the scale of “C” and used wide frequency shifts.

I began to incorporate my tonal chanting into the music.  The sessions are an hour minimum, spending 8-10 minutes on each chakra.

Soon after, I was approached to practice privately with clients.  The music for the sessions shifted from music to drones, tones and Gregorian type chants all played through speakers placed on the client’s body.  The clients are taught to mimic the sounds with their own voices, to become the string.  I make them follow specific cordial patterns that link to each chakra and in a specific order.

As clients are repeatedly immersed in the vibration I usually see dramatic results, especially with chronic pain, depression, hypertension and prescription medication dependencies.

We are all conscious protoplasmic vibrations of sound and light, from the atoms buzzing in our bones to photosynthesis.  Our environment is constantly bombarding us with unnatural, non-harmonic sounds as well as psychological overloads.  I simply have found a way to retune the body’s instrumental core.  I massage and align the spirit of the self at a place where drugs and surgery cannot go and modern doctors do not understand.  I can create in you the serenity of a napping child and awaken the euphoric lotus to flourish within the bliss residing in us all.
